Libby Taylor and Don Lynch

Congregation Bids Farewell to Long-Time Member

A special reception was held during the fellowship hour following worship on Sunday, November 2, to honor longtime member of Epworth-Euclid Church, Elizabeth “Libby” Taylor. Libby has moved to Cranberry Township in Pennsylvania to live with her daughter, Judy, son-in-law, Tom, and grandson, Eli. During the course of the reception, hosted by John M. Wheeler, Pastor Chris Martin presented Libby with a framed certificate of appreciation for her years of faithful service to Epworth-Euclid Church, a copy of the Holy Bible, identical to the new RSV Bibles in the sanctuary, with a colored picture of the church and a presentation plate on the inside front cover, and a dozen long-stemmed pink roses. A lovely corsage and table arrangement were also created for the occasion by Epworth-Euclid’s staff fl orist/caterer, John Wheeler. Many current and former members of Epworth-Euclid Church were on hand for the celebration, including the Reverend Dr. William McCartney and his wife, Judy, who served Epworth-Euclid Church from 1971 until 1981. Best wishes, Libby! Our thoughts and prayers go with you as you open a new chapter in your life. God bless!

The Inaugural Production of Center Stage

By Jennifer Bier
“The Colossian Dilemma,” a play in one act, will be presented on the new Center Stage in the Great Hall of Epworth-Euclid Church on November 15 and 16, 2008, at 7:00 PM. The play will be the centerpiece of the evening that includes light refreshments and a question-and-answer period with the playwright. On Saturday, the new stage and its sound system will be dedicated and Marion E. Homeier honored for having given this new space and audio equipment to the church.

This drama is based on two chapters from the Book of Colossians and the Book of Philemon. It brings attention to some issues in the early Christian church that still resonate in some of our denominations today. The characters are straight out of the Bible and are seldom, if ever, presented on stage. This opening production upholds the purpose of Epworth-Euclid’s new Center Stage Drama Ministry: To present plays about uncelebrated characters and their circumstances or situations that teach audiences about the nature of God and the Christian faith throughout the Old and New Testaments down to this present age.

Certified Lay Speaker William L. Gaddis, an Emeritus member of the Writers Guild America—West, came out of retirement to write this little drama. The cast is made up of members and friends of Epworth-Euclid Church including: Justin Day, David Hughes, Debra Ketchner, Mark Roush, and John Wheeler. Certified Lay Speaker Jeff Day is the stage manager and will be assisted by many more members and friends of the church in presenting this production. Seating is limited, so please sign up in the church office (216-421-1200) to ensure a seat for yourself.

We look forward to seeing you there; feel free to bring a friend.
