Mobilizing Greater Cleveland’s religious congregations, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and individuals to serve in a dignity affirming manner those who are experiencing homelessness.
Sunday, February 7; Sunday, February 28; and March 5, 2010 at the Cleveland Convention Center
The Homeless Stand Down (HSD) is more than a service event; it is a movement of hundreds of religiously diverse individuals and over 110 InterAct member congregations, organizations, school groups, and clubs stepping beyond obstacles that separate us and while working together towards the common goal of meeting the immediate, basic needs of our neighbors.
Last year our collaborative efforts have cared for over 2,100 guests in THREE days of respect, respite, renewal, and reconnection. Here volunteers, community leaders, and social service agencies create a dignity affirming atmosphere where our guests visit a doctor, enjoy a warm meal, and are cared for mind, body, and spirit.
How You Can Make a Difference
Volunteer at, before, or after the HSD; greet and talk with guests, distribute clothing as a personal shopper, serve a meal, drive a van, and more!
Support the HSD with financial or in-kind donations. Your dollars purchase the new coats and bootd distributed at the HSD.
Offer your professional services such as driving, printing, security, health care, and more.
Individually or as a group “adopt” a piece of the HSD. Pledge to make 25 personal care kits, collect $500, or sign up to perform for 1/2 hours.

Our Philosophies
Reconnection: That moment when you remember that the differences which separate do not outweigh the similarities that connect.
Respite: A worry free zone where you can breathe and be taken care of by doctors and volunteers
Respect: Affirming the dignity of each guest by honoring their individual person
Renewal: Uplifting the spirits and reminding ourselves that we are all neighbors.
